Baltica 2 investors received building permits

The Governor of Pomerania has granted construction permits for the offshore part of the Baltica 2 wind farm project, which is being jointly implemented by PGE and Ørsted. The permits cover the construction of wind turbines and offshore substations. These are the last permits needed to start construction.

Both building permits issued by the Pomeranian Voivode concern the project entitled ‘A complex of offshore wind farms with a maximum total capacity of 1,500 MW, together with the technical infrastructure associated with the preparatory, execution and operation stages (Offshore Wind Farm Baltica 2)’. The first permit obtained covers the construction of four offshore substations. The second relates to the construction of 107 offshore wind turbines together with an electricity and telecommunications system.

The construction design and the application for a building permit were prepared by a consortium formed by Ramboll and the Gdansk-based design studio Projmors. The companies are currently working on the preparation of the technical design.

PGE and Ørsted have already contracted all the necessary components of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm and signed contracts for the installation of foundations, turbines and cables. The partners have also selected a general contractor for the onshore connection infrastructure. The final step before construction begins will be for the investors to make a final investment decision (FID).

Baltica 2 is one of the two – along with Baltica 3 – phases of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. PGE and Ørsted plan to complete the Baltica 2 phase with a capacity of approximately 1.5 GW by the end of 2027, and the Baltica 3 phase with a capacity of approximately 1 GW by 2030. Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 will form the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a total capacity of 2.5 GW, which will significantly contribute to the transformation of the Polish energy sector by providing green energy to almost 4 million households in Poland.
