PWEA2024 conference – wind energy for a strong Poland

The energy transformation of all Europe is getting faster, and the process will be long and demanding. Green energy is a necessity for Poland’s sovereignty and national interest. The scale of the changes ahead poses enormous financial, technical and social challenges. The wind energy law undergoing procedure by the new government and the progressive work on offshore wind farms in the Baltic allow the wind industry to look to the future with optimism. However, there are still many issues and challenges that need to be worked out among experts and decision-makers. Great opportunity to discuss the direction of the unraveling energy transformation based on wind power and the RES sector will be this year’s 19th PWEA2024 Conference on June 4-6 in a new location!

This year the event will be hosted for the first time in Western Pomerania, in Świnoujście – one of the key places on the energy map of Poland, which before our eyes is becoming a center of wind energy development. The growth of the entire renewable energy industry is already an irreversible process. However, the energy potential of the Polish part of the Baltic Sea is considered one of the largest in Europe, reaching up to 33 GW. Using this potential would allow Poland to meet almost 60% of its electricity needs. This means that in the coming years the Polish offshore will become a significant developmental impulse for the entire Polish economy, with proper attention to the so-called local content. Having the largest industry event located precisely in Świnoujście reinforces the message coming from this offshore region about the necessity and benefits of using wind energy.

“We deeply believe in the sense of a meaningful debate on the vision of Poland’s energy policy, which is crucial for independence, energy security, or climate protection. This is a technological revolutionary undertaking for the 21st century. Poland should both participate in this process on an equal footing with other European countries, and at the same time strengthen its energy security. Today, we find ourselves in a complicated geopolitical and economic situation, so we cannot fail to see this as an opportunity, but we also need to do our part to make this goal real and achievable, and this is what we will be working on during the PWEA 2024 Conference” says Janusz Gajowiecki, president of the Polish Wind Energy Association.

Modern power industry is based on the production of energy from low- or zero-carbon sources. The growing share of wind power in the production mix significantly increases the country’s energy security and has a positive impact on social and economic development at the local and central levels. The European Union has recently proposed several initiatives and legislative packages aimed at accelerating the energy transition.

“Recent documents clearly outline the special role of wind power, which is expected to be one of the key drivers of the energy transition and decarbonization. Regulations and actions proposed under the Net Zero Industry Act, Electricity Market Design or the European Wind Power Action Plan are expected to accelerate the development of wind sources in Europe and simplify administrative procedures and legal frameworks. They are also intended to build a strong local supply chain that will support individual countries in building new onshore and offshore capacity. Polish local content will be one of the major topics addressed at the PWEA Conference” says Piotr Czopek, vice president of the Wind Industry Hub, a foundation established by PWEA to build a strong supply chain in Poland.

The Polish Wind Energy Association was established 25 years ago in Szczecin. Bringing together the largest representatives of the wind industry, it has the ambition to set standards for the sector and shape the key place for renewable energy topics in the Polish energy policy discourse. The 19th PWEA Conference is annually the largest wind industry event in Central and Eastern Europe will be held June 4-6, 2024. For years, it has been a place for forming key opinions in the renewable energy sector and discussing our country’s green energy mix among industry leaders.

PSEW2024

As every year, the PWEA2024 Conference will be attended by key politicians, local administration and decision-makers with real influence on the development of the sector in our country. Representatives of companies from Poland and across Europe will also arrive in Świnoujście, including developers, investors, component manufacturers or representatives of the energy distribution sector.

“This year we will talk about the prospects and opportunities for Poland to unlock onshore wind and the challenges the industry faces in terms of offshore. One thing is certain – the Polish wind market is accelerating and will only keep growing. There will be no shortage of topics on accelerating procedures, repowering, transition costs, rising electricity bills, energy storage or the operation of Polish power grids” mentioned Janusz Gajowiecki, president of the Polish Wind Energy Association.
