On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Łeba, a cornerstone laying ceremony took place for the construction of an operations and maintenance base that will service the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. The investment, carried out by Equinor, is a key element in the development of offshore wind energy in Poland and an opportunity to strengthen the local labor market.
Representatives of local authorities, key stakeholders, contractors, and representatives of Equinor and Polenergia – partners in the implementation of offshore wind farm projects – participated in the ceremony. Following tradition, a foundation act, symbolic coins, and a local newspaper were placed in a special time capsule.
“The emerging base will serve as a modern operational center for the maintenance and servicing of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. This investment will not only strengthen our operational capabilities in the region but also create new jobs and contribute to the development of the local economy” – said Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, CEO of Equinor Polska.
The service base will be built on a revitalized port area, on the site of a former shipyard. Erbud is responsible for the construction, and the project was prepared by the Gdańsk architectural office B-CA. The architectural concept envisions creating a climate-neutral facility, maximizing the potential of renewable energy sources and locally available raw materials.
The new base will include office space, a remote control and monitoring center for the wind farms, a spare parts warehouse, and a quay for mooring service vessels. Preparatory work began at the turn of 2024 and 2025, the actual construction started in March 2025, and the facilities are scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2026.
Equinor and Polenergia also announced the organization of a Supplier Day, which will take place on April 2, 2025, at the Gdańsk Entrepreneurship Incubator STARTER. The event aims to find Polish companies that could provide servicing and maintenance services for offshore wind farms for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects. Registration for this free event will last until March 17.
