The National Contact Point for EU Research Programmes at the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) returns to the Baltic Sea with the second edition of the Blue Economy Baltic Forum. Encouraged by the success of the first edition, held in 2023, this time, we have joined forces with an event organised as part of the EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters (Mission Arena 4), dedicated to the Baltic Sea basin.

The initiative to organise the first Baltic Forum in 2023 stemmed from a desire to strengthen regional cooperation in the context of research, development and innovation in the blue economy sector. We wanted to support the development of a vibrant knowledge and innovation ecosystem concentrated on the Baltic Sea. The National Contact Point at the NCBR is the co-host of the Second Baltic Forum and organiser of some of the workshops.

A new format of the second edition

This year’s Forum, which will take place in Sopot, Poland, offers a new format, inviting guests to participate in various thematic sessions that will address important issues for the development of our country, including:

National partners

The international nature of the event will be enriched by the participation of important Polish organisations and research projects in the blue economy sector, led by:

  • Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Sciences,
  • Military University of Technology (project: VIGIMARE – VIGILANT MARITIME SURVEILLANCE OF CRITICAL SUBMARINE INFRASTRUCTURE),
  • Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (project GEANT5),
  • Naval Academy in Gdynia,
  • University of Gdańsk,
  • The Pomeranian Regional Tourist Organization.

NCBR implements the EU Mission

Both editions of the Blue Economy Baltic Forum show the commitment of the National Centre for Research and Development to one of the flagship instruments under the Horizon Europe programme, namely the Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters.

The mission aims to protect and restore the state of oceans and waters through scientific research and innovation, citizen engagement, and blue investments. The mission supports regional cooperation through local so-called “lighthouses” in the main sea/river basins: the Atlantic and Arctic, the Mediterranean, the Baltic and North Sea, and the Danube and Black Sea. The mission’s “lighthouses” are places for piloting, demonstrating, developing, and implementing mission activities in the EU’s seas and river basins. The European Commission encourages EU Member States, regions, and a wide range of stakeholders to support the Mission Charter and commit to actions that will contribute to the successful implementation of the mission.

We kindly invite you to Sopot, April 28 -30, 2025. Registration is mandatory.
