For more than 105 years, Gdynia Maritime University has produced officers for the global merchant fleet. The University is currently accepting applications for its English-taught bachelor’s (first-cycle) degree programme in Navigation. The programme is offered by the Faculty of Navigation and is based on a curriculum which meets the standards of the International STCW Convention, ensuring high-quality maritime education recognised worldwide.
A degree in Navigation is the perfect course for those charting a future at sea. As part of their degree, students will gain knowledge and competencies in areas such as:
• classical and celestial navigation
• ship operation and shipbuilding
• vessel stability
• maritime communication
• meteorology and oceanography
• maritime systems and equipment operation
• automation, IT and physics.
An integral part of the degree programme are annual maritime internships on board the University’s tall ship Dar Młodzieży, during which navigation students put their skills and knowledge to the test and gain valuable teamwork experience – essential for a seafaring career.
Upon completion of this 3.5-year (7 semesters) full-time degree, graduates are awarded the Polish engineering title of inżynier (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science in Engineering). Programme graduates can choose to develop their career at sea in the roles of deck officer or captain on board merchant ships or on land at shipping agencies, port operators, and shipowners, as well as maritime industry institutions.
