Protea secures major contract for Baltic Power Offshore Wind Farm

Protea, a prominent provider of innovative lifting and handling solutions, has proudly announced securing a significant contract to supply two knuckle boom cranes for the Baltic Power offshore wind farm substation. These cranes, with a safe working load of 6 tons at 28 meters, will play a crucial role in the transport of loads from vessels to platforms and around the platform itself, working efficiently with Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) and Supply Offshore Vessels (SOV).

The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, a landmark project for Poland, is a joint venture between PKN Orlen, a leading Polish oil refiner and energy company, and Canada’s Northland Power. This project, with a capacity of 1.2 GW, is set to provide clean energy to over 1.5 million households upon its expected commercial operation in 2026, which makes it a leader in entire Polish Offshore Wind Farms industry. Baltic Power is among the first major offshore wind initiatives in Poland and is a cornerstone of the country’s renewable energy strategy.

The cranes supplied by PROTEA will feature remote service access, ensuring maintenance and troubleshooting can be efficiently handled even from a distance, enhancing operational reliability and safety. These cranes are expected to enhance the efficiency and safety of load handling operations on the offshore substation, which is critical for the wind farm’s logistical and operational needs.

The cranes will be supplied to CS Wind company, the contractor responsible for delivery of offshore substation for Baltic Power OWF. CS Wind’s expertise in handling large-scale wind energy projects makes them a key partner in ensuring the successful implementation of this complex project.

PROTEA Business Development Manager expressed pride in contributing to such a transformative project, highlighting the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of renewable energy infrastructure.

“We are honored to be part of the Baltic Power project, which is set to play a pivotal role in Poland’s energy transition. This contract underscores our capability to deliver advanced, reliable, and safe handling solutions for the offshore wind sector,” said the BDM.

With the installation phase expected to begin in 2024, Baltic Power is poised to become a significant player in the European offshore wind market, supported by cutting-edge technology and international collaboration.
