GEOxyz has successfully completed a geophysical survey for the planned offshore wind farm site Baltica 2 and the export cable route, utilizing its offshore support vessel, GEO Ocean IV. This survey marks a significant milestone in the project’s progression and was conducted as part of the marine site investigations initiated in 2023.
The Baltica 2 project, a collaboration between PGE and Ørsted, aims to harness wind energy from a site located approximately 40 km off the north coast of Poland, near Łeba. In 2023 and 2024, GEOxyz deployed the GEO Ocean IV to carry out comprehensive surveys of the Baltica 2 OWF site locations, including the associated export cable routes. The geophysical surveys included techniques such as Multibeam Echosounder (MBES), Magnetometer (MAG), Side Scan Sonar (SSS), and Sub-bottom Profiler (SBP) to ensure detailed mapping and analysis of the seabed and sub-sea conditions.
The completion of these surveys in April 2024 represents a critical step in the development of the Baltica 2 OWF site. The data gathered during these operations is currently being processed and analyzed, with detailed reporting to follow. This information will be vital for the subsequent phases of the project, providing essential insights into the marine environment and informing the design and installation of wind farm infrastructure.
Katarzyna Grodzicka, Representative for Poland and the Baltics at GEOxyz, expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and the continued collaboration with PGE and Ørsted.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with PGE and Ørsted and contribute to the advancement of renewable energy in Poland. After extensive data acquisition efforts in 2023 for Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, we were glad to return to this area for a continued collaboration in 2024. Our focus remains on delivering precise data to our customers, like PGE and Ørsted, to support various crucial aspects for the further development of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea,” Grodzicka stated.
