The General Director for Environmental Protection (GDOŚ) is launching a two-week public consultation period for a crucial document governing offshore wind energy development in Poland. The draft “Guidelines for Environmental Analysis and Monitoring in Offshore Wind Farm Construction” will be open for consultation from December 10 to December 23, 2024.
This document has been developed in response to the rapid expansion of the offshore wind sector and aims to standardize the processes associated with environmental impact assessment of these marine installations. The guidelines encompass three fundamental areas: recommendations for conducting environmental inventories, standards for assessing marine environmental impacts, and methodologies for impact monitoring during construction and operational phases.
Particular emphasis has been placed on the wind farm construction phase, which is recognized as the period of most intensive impact on the marine ecosystem. The guidelines present a comprehensive catalogue of most effective solutions for minimizing the negative environmental impact of these developments.
The document holds significant practical implications for the investment process, as it will facilitate the preparation of documentation required for obtaining environmental conditions decisions, which should streamline administrative procedures.
Stakeholders can submit their comments until December 23, 2024, using a specialized form that should be sent to wytyczne.mfw@gdos.gov.pl. GDOŚ is providing technical support through its Environmental Impact Assessment Department.
